#1GREEN HOUSE FARMING

This farming innovation involves production of crops in an artificial micro ecosystem using a special structure called a green house.Green house production allows farmers to increase production by quality and quantity through isolating them in micro-climates that provide ideal conditions for optimum crop growth.

To create this micro climate the farmer should understand the specific crop requirements, and then, as basic as it sounds, provide it for them. This provides an oasis for crops supplying enough light, air flow, humidity, and optimum temperature.

If well implemented green houses green houses can be a low cost solution to high production even in place with harsh climates or other external risks as pest infestation.

Requirements of a good green house.

Plants just like people have different tastes and preferences. The farmer should thus take the needs into consideration when setting up the green house, however there are general considerations applied to all green houses. These are:

Sunlight- This is a basic requirement for photosynthesis the mechanism used by plants to make food. Most crops will require six to eight hours of of daylight a day.

Humidity- This is moisture content in the air and it's recommended to be 45-60%.

Temperature- The temperature in the greenhouse should not exceed 20°c during the day and not less than 7°c at night.

Other requirements include correct soil nutrients content, pH which might vary with each crops. This is why soil testing and analysis are another major key to a successful crop production.

Benefits of green house farming

Production of high quality crops at optimal costs thus higher margins.

Easier to mitigate against risks as unpredictable weather changes, and pests and disease.this is because crops grow isolated from natural environment thus it's easier to identify problems and control them.

Makes it possible to produce all year round.this is so because farming will not be dependent on external agents as  rainfall, temperature which change seasonally.

Can be practiced at small or commercialized large scale.
